Just Start.

Motivators 2 min read

I've known for a long time that you just have to start. You have to do things to get better. And perfection without practice is a fools endeavor.

And for a long time I've been meaning to write a blog to help people market themselves better, perhaps run their business better, and if I'm really lucky, change people's mindsets.

But it's hard when you're a perfectionist.

I have 100's of drafts, that just aren't ready for the light of day.

I have tons of video clips that just didn't get delivered right.

Just grab your cell phone and post a video. It takes literally 2-3 minutes to do.

And I even have some podcasts I've done that have never been edited, because I want to launch them all properly.

And yet.... no blog.

All that changed (or, while I write this first blog post, I hope!) when I listened to this podcast by Tim Ferriss and Seth Godin.

It was the same message I've heard many times.

just start.

Influential people, like Gary Vee, Tony Robbins, I've heard say things like this before.

Gary Vaynerchuk says it. So it must be true.

Just start.

And I've even gotten to this point before, writing a blog, with the intention to write and post a whole lot more.

JUST START!!!!!

But this time it's different.

Everyone has their own reasons/motivations. For me, the reason I was having trouble with the first part of the journey: Starting, was the platform.

When I wrote for my business: Market Pie, I had to make it all perfect, and professional.

If I was writing for my personal network on Facebook: I feel the the judgement of the many diverse audiences there. My Facebook page has people from all walks of life, family, friends, business, old lives, and even random internet people. Most of which, probably don't care too much about marketing/business blog of a startup Marketing company.

Let's be clear here:

Not only are these judgements all in my head.

I actually UNDERSTAND that they are.

And yet, I don't start. I'm sure we all have had something equally stupid happen in our heads, where we know what's good for us, we for some reason, don't do it.

So for me to overcome this, was a simple solution:

I needed a platform that wasn't (technically) my business, and wasn't my own personal blog. Even though this is clearly my personal blog, the difference for me, is that I can set expectations from the beginning that anything posted in this space is not going to be perfect.

I make no promises that it will be said 100% perfectly.

But what it does promise, is to be the most interesting things that I can possibly think of, and all the things that I believe have a ton of value. It will be the great ideas that I was never able to share before because of some mental hang ups.

Unfiltered, unedited. (well... as unedited as a perfectionist will ever let it it I suppose)

So here we are. Blog #1. The hardest part is done.

What have you been putting off just starting on?
